BIOGRAPHY Jane Edberg copyright 2006 Photographic Artist / Edberg Studios and Professor of Art and Digital Media at Gavilan College. Jane has been fascinated with photography since she was five years old. Her Grandmother gave her a Kodak Instamatic when she was eight and her father gave her his two and a quarter medium format camera when she was fourteen. Jane has been setting herself as subject before her camera since those early times. She now uses both analog and digital cameras to produce her artworks. She is a photographer who combines images with text. Although Jane’s main media is photography combined with writing, she will often incorporate painting, sculpting and mixed media into her artwork. Jane has also made videos, films, composed music, choreographed dance performances, danced and directed major art performance venues. Jane earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Art, Photography and Painting, 1987. and her Masters of Fine Arts in Photography and Performance Art,1989 from the University of California at Davis. Jane's current concerns with art involve serving the community. Last year she completed 300 hours of volunteer effort for an interior design and surround mural for the Child Interview room at the Morgan Hill Police Department which earned her a plaque of appreciation from the Morgan Hill Police department, a certificate of appreciation from the Mayor of Morgan Hill and the Unsung Hero award from the Victim Support Network of Santa Clara County. She is now working on a video project about Methamphetamine addiction and recovery. Jane is currently completing a book about her artistic explorations relating to the tragic loss of her son Nanda. In the book Jane uses her creative process through writing and photography to make visible her expression of loss and grief. A in depth journey through the dreadful pitch of darkness to the illuminating colors and splendor of light. The book is titled “Nanda’s Red Blanket and the Fine Art of Grieving.” |
